This video gives some background history of the Monsanto Company and their history of producing products like “agent orange” and in todays marketplace Roundup
Agent Orange, an herbicide, was produced during the Vietnam war. At the time it was being used it often came in contact with humans and Monsanto told us that it wasn’t harmful to humans. They were wrong.
The video goes on to show how today Monsanto is promoting another herbicide, Roundup and how they are again telling us it’s not harmful to humans.
The attached video does a very good job of explaining in 2 min. what GMO’s Genetically Modified Organisms are and the potential harm they can cause in our food.
This video was originally made to support proposition 37 in California.
Proposition 37 would have mandated that all genetically modified food be labeled as such.
Not that GMO food couldn’t be sold just that they had to be labeled.
As most of you probably already know proposition 37 was defeated in California and therefore genetically modified food does not have to carry a label to inform the consumer that they are purchasing a food that has been modified genetically.
The reason that proposition 37 was to defeated was simply Monsanto and others from the Big Commercial Food and Chemical industry significantly outspent the concerned citizens who were in favor labeling.
It’s another example of the Profit of the Corporation being placed before the wellbeing of the average person.
This video was made by our good friends Eat Local Grown.
Eat local grown this website for an organization that helps people find and support local farmers and support direct consumer to farmer purchase of food.
I hope in your travels on the web you’ll stop by Eat Local Grown and see what they have to say.
If you want to know more about supporting the fight against genetically modified food stay tuned for my next post in which I’m going to talk about Genetic Roulette.
